Sri Lanka - Travel Itinerary Guide

My trip to Sri Lanka shared from experience....I recently went on a trip to Sri Lanka in December 2016.  It was a great trip and I am sharing it with you because I highly recommend it! I travelled with a girlfriend for 12 days through South-West Sri Lanka, our trip consisted of a personal travel plans and a group tour through gecko adventures, the tour was called Sri Lankan Adventure and here is the travel itinerary we followed:
DAY 1: Prior to the Gecko Tour we travelled to Adams Peak. Adams Peak (aka Butterfly Mountain) is a mountain in Central Sri Lanka is well known for the Sri Pada, i.e., "sacred footprint”, which in Buddhist tradition is held to be the footprint of the Buddha. This is a sacred pilgrimage only accessible at certain times of the year. We hiked the mountain on Christmas Eve at 2am, reaching the peak at 5am on Christmas morning. The hike was the highlight of my trip and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in Culture, Heritage, Religion and Outdoor Activities. It is a difficult hike however most people are able  to complete it.
DAY 2: NEGOMBONegombo is a small beach town north of the countries capital Colombo. There are plenty of beach bars, pubs and restaurants available close by, and guests can use the Golden Star Hotel’s swimming pool if you fancy a swim.
DAY 3: KANDY Today was free to explore Kandy. We went on a day trip to the famous palace of Sigiriya and Dambulla Caves Temple - discovering this magnificent cave complex
DAY 4: KANDYToday we headed to the Royal Botanic Gardens and checked out the local food and sights
DAY 5: ELLAToday we went got the six hour train to Ella. It was the most beautiful train ride I have ever experienced which went though tea plantations in the highlands of Sri Lanka. Arriving in Ella: a small backpackers town it was beautifully situated up in the highlands.

I will continue talking about my final six days in Sri Lanka in my next blog post, I hope this information is helpful if you're planning a trip to Sri Lanka
